What is Tembo?

MSF and non-MSF staff can access learning activities such as courses, quick videos and exercises, job-aids, learning communities and many other resources available in 4 languages: Arabic, English, French and Spanish. In most courses, learners can receive digital badges or certificates that recognise their achievements upon completion.

The range of learning solutions and content in Tembo is constantly expanding as learning units and different MSF departments and programmes develop and add more relevant material to support staff in their current jobs or prepare them for their next role in MSF. Today, Tembo is used regularly by more than 30.000 learners around the world.

At the beginning of 2023, Tembo offered over 900 courses organised around the following categories for MSF staff:

  • Management and Leadership
  • Communication and Fundraising
  • Finance
  • MSF General Knowledge
  • Human Resources
  • Medical
  • Operations
  • Logistics and Supply Chain

On average, 3.000 courses are completed by Tembo learners each month and the numbers continue to grow as more staff join Tembo and begin to access different learning opportunities. The total number of Tembo users reached a milestone of 30.000 regular users at the beginning of 2023.

Tembo – Learning saves lives

Empowering humanitarian workers with digital learning opportunities to better contribute to MSF’s operations and mission.

Tembo was first planned to provide equitable access to learning opportunities across MSF, empowering individuals to develop their skills and advance professionally, regardless of their location or role. In 2018, the first pilots were completed in Nigeria to test the solution. Since then, Tembo’s reach has grown exponentially. From 2020, the whole MSF movement adopted the solution committing to a mutualization of the solution and resources, while developing a range of educational content for the growing community of learners.
