One of the main initiatives of the MSF Academy for Healthcare is to improve the skills of staff providing nursing and midwifery care within structures supported by the different operational sections of MSF.
This basic clinical nursing care (BCNC) course is one of the tools developed and used for continuing education in basic nursing. This is a complementary support to the face-to-face learning sessions which include classroom sessions, skills labs and, most important, clinical mentoring at the bedside.
Goals of the BCNC training programme :
- Improve quality of care
- Improve patient experience at healthcare facilities.
- Address specific gaps in knowledge identified in competency gap assessment.
- Expand knowledge of nurses and nursing assistants using competency-based curriculum.
- Promote environment of continuous professional development and nursing education

- Complete Nursing Assessment of the patient
- Infection, Prevention and Control
- Nursing Care to support Human Functions
- Supporting the Patient Through the Diagnostic Process
- Supporting the Patient Through Treatment
How to enrol:
This course is part of a 12 to 24-month blended learning programme and is currently not available as a self-paced course. It is reserved to learners enrolled in the face-to-face MSF Academy BCNC training programme. This training programme includes face-to-face classroom sessions and skills labs, as well as clinical mentoring at the bedside delivered by clinical mentors or learning companions.
Who is this course for?
This course is currently reserved for nursing staff registered in the MSF Academy programme.
